Posted 16th September 2025 by Phil Grove

We are delighted to announce that we, Dixons Cottingley Academy have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2024/25 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include:

  • 7 x Gold in Dixons Cup
  • 6 x Silver in Dixons Cup
  • 3 x Bronze in Dixons Cup
  • Finishing 2nd overall in the Dixons Cup out of 13 schools
  • Two of our Y10 boys qualified for West Yorkshire Cross Country Championships
  • First ever interform school football competitions thoroughly enjoyed by all!
  • Co-Curricular successes - Rugby, Trampoline, Badminton, Rowing, Sports Leaders
  • Stand out performances for students in Athletics
  • High attendance at Extra-Curricular sessions

With a growing number of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Huge thanks to all members of staff that have helped support events, the Admin Team for assisting processes for fixtures and trips, PE staff for their dedication throughout the year, and of course the students for their hard work and commitment.

We look forward to applying once again in 2026 when we apply for the platinum award!
