Dixons Cottingley Academy extra curricular roundup - January 2026

Key Stage 3 Badminton

The boys got off to a good start in the Bradford Schools Badminton league, playing against a strong Carlton Keighley A team. We have a brand new set of players this year, and this was the boys first competitive fixture. There were plenty of very competitive points some very close scores, but Carlton Keighley won the fixture overall. Well done to Rayyan, Ubaid, Hassan, Rahim, Alan, Angelo, Brianus and Adnan.

Key Stage 4 Badminton - Dixons Cup

Key Stage 4 had a brilliant night at the Dixons Cup Badminton Competition. An experienced Year 11 team put in a strong performance with Shimaz and Carla winning all of their matches, backed up with some wins from Mohammed and Melinda. In the Year 10 competition, Umar, Zainab and Ishba played some extremely competitive points and also stacked up some wins for the team. Overall 2nd Place! Well done!

Year 7 Sports Hall Athletics

Year 7 had their first experience of Sports Hall Athletics in a lively and rousing competition held at Dixons Cottingley. The atmosphere was fantastic with seven schools in attendance. The Dixons Cottingley team showed incredible determination and never gave up in any of their events. There were lots of strong performances and some talent for the future! Well done!

Year 8 Sports Hall Athletics

After the Year 7 competition, it was difficult to imagine a more exciting afternoon, but the year 8 competition certainly delivered! The Year 8 team demonstrated their experience from last summer’s athletics competitions and competed with control and determination. Despite a couple of stumbles and increasingly tired muscles, they never gave up and kept scoring points. The atmosphere was electric and the team supported each other and cheered each other on with gusto! The girls’ team placed a brilliant 4th, and the boys came out winners, in 1st place! Well done everybody!

Bradford Schools Cross Country Championship

On a very cold January afternoon, 12 students competed at the Bradford Schools Athletics Championships at Northcliffe Park in Shipley.

This was the best attended event in recent years with numerous secondary schools across Bradford in attendance. The courses were tricky – plenty of hill climbs and mud to negotiate. This was the first Cross Country experience for most of the Year 7 and Junior teams and they coped admirably, with Musa (year 7), Ali (Year 9) and Zak (Year 8) all looking strong at the finish.

In the Intermediate competition, Year 11s Ismail and Kayden showed their experience and both ran a very strong race and finishing in the top 15 runners. This means they both qualify to represent Bradford in the West Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championship. Well Done!

Year 7: Mohammed Hadi, Musa A, Aunmuhammad

Junior: Maaria, Ariana, Ali Q, Bolarin, Zak S, Eghosa, Deen

Intermediate: Ismail, Kayden
