British Science Week 2026

Date of Event: 16th March 2026

British Science Week kicked off with a competitive staff science themed quiz on Friday 6th March. Staff solved emoji elements and even saw a sudden death round won by Mr Baxter.

Students at DCO played detective throughout the week- quizzing our "scientists" about their contributions to science through space, medicine and chemistry. This introduced our students (and staff ) to scientists past and present that maybe most had not heard of but that definitely played pivotal roles. Our daily form riddle kept students guessing "What am I?" while our "Did you knows" kept staff entertained.

All students took part in scientific investigations throughout the week- developing working scientifically skills. These ranged from investigation the bounce height of different balls to how surface area of antacids affects reaction time.

Dixons Cottingley Academy's science team want to thank Ms L Dawson for preparing all our practical work and ensuring students had a hands-on week! A shout out also goes to our canteen staff who designed curious biscuits and to Ms Varley our librarian who produced some display work to support the week.

A successful week- raising the profile of science past and present. Who knows what BSW 2027 might bring?
